Whistle Bear Wedding: Abby & Owen’s Elegant Union

Soper Park Wedding Portraits
Abby & Owen’s incredible Whistle Bear wedding day began with portraits at Soper Park in Cambridge. The park was perfect for wedding portraits. It was a quiet space, so green and lush on their August wedding day. The river was a peaceful focal point, surrounded by mature trees. Abby & Owen’s wedding party, including Abby’s twin sister Bailey, brought so much positive energy to the day and were so much fun to work with.
I connected with Abby & Owen through Abby’s brother Jake and his wife Daesi, whose wedding I photographed back in 2023. One of the biggest compliments I can receive is being recommended by previous happy clients. Since Jake & Daesi’s wedding, I’ve photographed Daesi’s brother’s wedding and now Jake’s sister’s. It means so much to be trusted back. I’m basically part of the family at this point.
Whistle Bear Garden Chapel Wedding Ceremony
Whistle Bear’s Garden Chapel one of the prettiest and most practical spaces in the region for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The roof is retractable, for full control of how much light pours into the space, and also guaranteed protection from precipitation. It’s an open-aired space, for tons of fresh air, but with plenty of protection from the wind. The chapel is surrounded by beautiful gardens and fully private from golfers or other wedding groups who may be on-site during your ceremony. The space looks clean, modern and elegant on it’s own, but also serves as a blank canvas for those who want to bring in decor. One thing you can be sure of when you choose a Pearle venue, is that your guests will be well taken care of. There is always a refreshment station setup for guests to enjoy before and after the ceremony. No doubt Whistle Bear is one of Cambridge’s best wedding venues.
Since we took most of the portraits before arriving at the venue, there were only a handful of extended family photos to be taken after the ceremony. We used Whistle Bear’s iconic waterfall as the backdrop. Then, the newlyweds were able to head straight to cocktail hour to enjoy their guests’ company for the full length of the cocktail hour.
The Rose Room & Terrace Wedding Reception
Upstairs, guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the Rose Room and Terrace, overlooking the beautiful Whistle Bear Golf Course. The couple created some fun activities for guests to enjoy, including a bingo card and giant crossword puzzle that required guests to know a thing or two about the happy couple. Right answers even won them a chance to win a bottle of Crown Royal.
With sunlight shining in through the circular window of the Rose Room, Abby & Owen were in the spotlight for their romantic first dance immediately after their grand entrance. Between delicious courses and and heartfelt speeches, Abby & Owen and I took a peaceful stroll outside, where I captured one of my favourite images of the year – a silhouette of the couples walking among the trees.
Back inside, Abby shared a touching dance with her dad, while her brother Jake played guitar and sang. After speeches and dessert, the dancefloor energy was contagious, as were a pair of travelling sunglasses that were passed around the dancefloor. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. It was such a joy to capture Abby & Owen’s wedding. It was a reminder of how family love and a gorgeous wedding venue is a recipe for an amazing wedding day. And who knows, maybe I’ll see everyone again for Bailey’s wedding. 😜
